History of the Church

The Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth of Los Angeles California began with a small group of Christians who met in a small home in Compton California.

The church that had found favor in God’s eye was growing by leaps and bounds began worshiping in Storefronts.  On September 16, 1936, under the direction of the late Bishop A. B. Williams, The Church of the Living God the Pillar and Ground of the Truth  (I Tim. 3:15) was established.

In 1956, the Church relocated to a new, spacious building on the corners of South Hoover and 57th Streets and became the official home of the ‘THE HOUSE OF PRAYER, CHURCH OF THE LIVING GOD, PILLAR AND GROUND OF TRUTH, OF LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA’.

Throughout the over seven decade’s history of the church, there have been only six Pastors including our current Pastor, Overseer Percy G. Porter, Jr.

In October 2010, the Grant Writing Team (GWT) became into existence with a small group of people from the church with a vision to be able to obtain Grants and other supportive services for the people in the community.  In December 2012, the GWT’s goal became into fruition with a Non-Profit Organization titled ‘Adams, Griffin Owens Community Resource Center’. The mission statement for AGOCRC is “Empowering Individuals and Families with Supportive Services to Achieve Lifelong Success”.

The names Adams, Griffin and Owens are three of the fore founders of this local church.  These three families will forever be a vital part of this church and never be forgotten.
